Preservation + Rehabilitation | Abbington Hall

Abbington Hall apartments, located at 471 Grady Street, Waleska, Cherokee County, 30183, will consist of 49 rental apartments for 55+ residents (housing for older persons).  The site will include the adaptive reuse of the historic R. M. Moore Elementary building (15 units) as well as a new construction building containing the remaining units. The development will be 100% affordable, with income averaging to achieve an average rent at or below an 58% area median income.

The development unit mix will comprise fifteen (15) 1-bedroom/1-bathroom, constructed in the historic R. M. Moore Elementary building, plus an additional four (4) 1-bedroom/1-bathroom units and thirty (30) 2-bedroom/2-bathroom units in a new construction residential building.  The new construction building will be elevator served. The adaptive reuse building will be modified for ADA accessibility along with modifications to the interior to convert the use while maintaining the historic significance working with our design team.  The community center will be incorporated into the new construction building. The development will be mindful of the existing terrain, we have designed around a large tree in the former playground area that many of our local neighbors remember climbing while attending R.M. Moore. The property will be professionally managed by CAHEC Management, Inc. and include on-site management and maintenance staff.
